The One Pixel Camera: Copy Work

2019 | photography , documentary , installation , sculpture , featured

An extension of the original One Pixel Camera project commissioned for Small Squares: The Pixel as Material and Metaphor (2020) curated by Matthew Ryan Smith at the Glenhyrst Gallery in Brantford, Ontario.

In this case The One Pixel Camera was used to produce photographic duplications of various artwork in the Glenhyrst's collection. The One Pixel Camera: Copy Work works with the initial ideas behind The One Pixel Camera Project, while also connecting it to a questioning about the fidelity of artwork reproduction and potential issues of copyright. For instance, in this very redacted, pixelated form, is it still a photograph/reproduction of Warhol’s painting of Wayne Gretzky, and if not, at what resolution does it become an actual legitimate copy of the work.

The One Pixel Camera: Copy Work was also featured in Prefix Photo (41 Spring/Summer) 2022.
